Geoff Collis has been in the airline industry for 42 years and for the last 20 years as a pilot with Jetstar. He left the industry in part due to the industry’s lack of meaningful action on climate change. He explains how aviation is one of the decarbonisation ‘problem child’ industries.
It was a fabulous expose of how aviation has avoided inclusion in the Paris Agreement, has missed climate goals, greenwashing and tokenism. Geoff took us through the issues facing this industry – what are the possibilities for decarbonisation, what efforts are being made to change the culture around flying, and what he envisages the future of the industry to be. We were very fortunate to have such expert guidance through quite a complex and important topic.
